The importance of not leaving infants in car seats

On Behalf of | Oct 24, 2022 | Personal Injury Law |

Car seats are meant to keep infants in Oklahoma and elsewhere safe. However, they are not meant to be used over a long period or for the baby to sleep in or they can be dangerous. A father issued a warning after his son died at daycare.

Baby dies in his car seat

After struggling with infertility for several years, a couple welcomed fraternal twins. The father stated that his baby son and daughter were miracles and were often seen holding hands. Sadly, by the time his son turned one year old, he suddenly died at daycare. The tragic death occurred when the boy was left in his car seat and fell asleep.

According to the medical examiner’s report, the baby boy died of asphyxiation due to the position of his chin, which dipped forward to touch his chest. His airway was cut off from the positioning. When babies are in car seats, the seats must be positioned at a 45-degree angle to accommodate their airways.

Dad speaks out to prevent other tragedies

The baby’s father has spoken out on the dangers of leaving infants in their car seats when they aren’t in a vehicle. They aren’t meant to be used outside of vehicles because of these serious risks. The father points out that he wants other parents to be aware of the dangers of car seats and said that his daughter might be too young to remember her twin brother. He stated that he and his wife always talk about him to keep his memory alive.

The father acknowledged that his son’s death was completely preventable. He stressed that he and his wife want to ensure that their tragedy doesn’t happen to other parents and claim the lives of other innocent children.

Daycare accidents are often preventable. Providers must be on top of what’s happening with the children at all times.
