How can day care centers lead to injuries for your children?

When your children complain about feeling bad or in pain after coming back from day care, you may panic. Negligence and mistreatment can lead to serious injuries at a day care center, especially for younger children.

Knowing the sources of these accidents can help you if you worry about your children’s safety.

Falls

According to Psychology Today, a shortage of staff or a distracted caretaker can fail to prevent your children from falling on their face or back. A drop from several feet above the ground can seriously hurt their necks and lower backs as well, which can lead to potential spinal cord problems.

The playground can also contain unsafe areas with mold or rust, which can harm your children if they ingest it. Old or poorly constructed pieces of equipment can break while they are playing on them and cause them to trip or fall.

Cuts on metal

Sharp edges and broken shards of glass can seem alluring to children at first, but they may deal with deep and lasting injuries once they play with them. Cuts can also become infected in the time after children get them, which can lead to long-term illnesses.

Dehydration and starvation

If the staff at the center neglects to feed your children or does not properly supply them with water, your children may suffer from poor nutrition and other complications. They may constantly come home and say they need food and water, which can signal that they do not receive proper care at the day care center.

Being vigilant about what your children are doing at day care and how the staff treats them can help you make a choice about what action to take next.
